The sun-filled island of Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and is known by the presence of the mountain Pico del Teide, with a varied climate and a rich fauna and flora. It offers every type of holidaymaker's taste. We give some suggestions for the Sun worshipper, nature lovers, shopaholic, culture lovers and the adventurer.

The Weather

Tenerife is  called the island of eternal spring. The island has a subtropical climate and is located on the same latitude as Florida and Kuwait, and Western Sahara. From the coast to a height of 200 meters, the temperature remains constant, with minor variations, all year and even in the coldest months seldom drops below 20 degrees. With every 150 meters rise the average temperature drops by about 1 degree. In winter there is snow on the highest peak of Teide, while you're on the beach, guests can enjoy a summer´s day.

The Beaches

Tenerife has many beautiful beach resorts. Above all, the beaches in the South East, thanks to the subtropical climate, and is very popular as a winter sun destination. In Playa de las Americas, perhaps the largest and most well-known and busiest resort of Tenerife, as well as in Los Cristianos, just south of Playa de las Americas. For the more retired, then you can relax in the stylish, attractive Costa Adeje, Puerto Santiago, whilst the sporting types will love the surfing paradise of El Médano.

The beautiful Parque Nacional del Teide is a must for any nature lover. Here is the Pico del Teide, with its 3718 meters is the highest mountain of Spain, (Lord and master). From the snow-covered top of this centrally located dormant volcano, you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the island. (So ready for a five-hour climb up party or lets you conveniently with the cable car 'Teleferico del Teide').

Shopaholics can shop to their hearts content in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of Tenerife and the shopping city par excellence. Calle Castillo is the place to be. In this narrow pedestrian street, you'll find everything from designer clothes to Canary folk art

Do you want some culture, you have to go to the University City San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Here you can admire hundreds of architectural gems such as beautiful churches and magnificent palaces from the 17th and 18th centuries. La Laguna is the main historical city of the entire Canary Archipelago in 1999 and was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list

Do you like adventure, just make a day trip to La Gomera, the 'Green Pearl of the Canary Islands'. The vast fairytale forests of the ParqueNacional de Garajonay are definitely worth a visit. Also from here you can indulge in whale watching. The ocean around La Gomera is the habitat of many whales and dolphins. Gomera you will reach after about 45 minutes by boat from Los Cristianos. (

Tenerife has two airports. One in the North (Los Rodeos) in La Laguna and the other in the South (Reina Sofia) near Los Cristianos. All international flights arrive and depart from the airport in the South

Rent a Car

We recommend that you rent a car. In the village there is a bus stop (5 min walking distance) where you can catch buses to different parts of Tenerife. LOS SILOS is a great base for nature lovers, hikers and people who are looking for rest and relaxation. RentalCars offers cheap cars with very favorable prices. We are happy to arrange a car for you. You collect the car at the airport upon arrival, in the "Meeting Point" at the airport. Pick up and drop off is (going to be) very simple and straight-forward (and very pleasant on your round trip this way).

Public Transport

If you prefer not to use car rental, then public bus transport is also very good (, you can also catch buses every day to Mount Teide National. Bus transportation is very cheap, whilst taxi is a lot more expensive, (but still cheap compared with Netherlands??). If you take the bus, we recommend that you buy a BONO, (cheaper than paying cash on the bus) Bonos are for sale in each bus station and the airports.

From the Airport South (Reina Sofia) there are two possibilities

Take guagua 343 directly to Puerto de la Cruz. From Puerto de la Cruz take the 363 to Los Silos or Take the 111, a direct line to Santa Cruz (until the end stop) Here you change to the 106   to Icod de los Vinos (until the end stop). Then from Icod de los Vinos, change to the 107 or   363 to Los Silos  (get off at the Church Los Silos).

From the North Airport (Los Rodeos), there are two possibilities

Take the 107 to Los Silos or Take a direct line to Puerto de la Cruz. In Puerto de la Cruz, change to the 363 to Los Silos (this is faster than to take bus 107

From Costa Adeje to Los Silos

Take the highway to the South (Los Cristianos, Adeje ...) until the end. Then follow the road to Santiago del Teide, Erjos and El Tanque.
